Job Placement and Readiness

Community employment is a key part of our work. By helping our members with their career and self-improvement goals, we can improve their social determinants of health — and by extension, their overall health and well-being. That's why we sponsor a variety of job training and workforce development programs across the country.

We currently engage in several noteworthy workforce programs. Members can check with their specific health plan for information on programs in their area.

Examples of programs for adults of college age and above include:

  • Pathways to Work, which provides a 12-week paid internship, along with mentoring, coaching, workshops, and training to increase members’ job readiness.
  • Long-term services and supports (LTSS) employment services and Tools for Tomorrow, which help members with disabilities strengthen their skills and connect with future employers, and provide additional employment-related guidance to assist members on their path to a rewarding career.

Our Medicaid members’ GED journeys are important.

With the help of a dedicated Community Health Educator who believes in them, plan members in our Mission GED program receive the assistance they need to get their high school equivalency diploma. We’re here from the first step through to the celebration, offering caring support to help our members become the best versions of themselves. Because with the right support, the load gets lighter, goals get closer, and members take the first important step toward reaching a dream.

For youth, we offer:

  • Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School Work Study Program. This partnership with Cristo Rey provides high-school students from low-income backgrounds with hands-on experience that prepares them for their future careers, including assistance with mentoring, coaching, and enhancing cross-functional skill sets.
  • Community outreach and academic programming. Across multiple states and health plans, youth-oriented events equip students with school supplies, health screenings, and the community support they need to continue their education and start their career journey.

We also support local small businesses and provide opportunities to help them grow and prosper, which translates to more jobs in our communities and more employment opportunities for our members.

“We did this together”

Miketeka’s drive and passion led her to apply for our Mission GED program. With a clear vision for her future and a no-excuses attitude, she proved that when determination meets a dedicated support system, it can change everything.

“All I had to do was focus on my studies,” Miketeka says. “I did my part, they did their part, and my children were witnesses of that.”
